"We were prepared for the game, but we just didn't play as well in the second half as we did in pre-season," Hodgson said after the firs game of the new season.
"In the first half I think the team were coming together well and we played some good football.
"It became a fight at both ends in the second half, and in those circumstances it was always possible a defensive error would settle the match, which is what happened.
"He [Konchesky] made the sort of error he rarely makes and he understands he didn't do the right thing in the situation."
